Organisasi/Lembaga pengetest Antivirus Independen (AV-Test.org) di bulan Maret tahun ini kembali melakukan test terbarunya terhadap 30 Antivirus. Test ini tidak berfokus pada pendeteksian antivirus, tetapi pada malware. Berdasarkan laporannya, di bulan Januari dan Februari tahun 2008 saja, AV-Test.org telah menemukan contoh sekitar 1.1 Juta unik malware yang menyebar di Internet. Sebagai perbandingan di tahun 2005 saja hanya ditemukan sekitar 330.000 dan 972.000 di tahun 2006, sedangkan sampai tahun 2007 ditemukan hampir 5.490.000 malware.
Kategori Pengetesan meliputi:
- Detection of malware (On-Demand) Total 1,130,556 samples
- Recognize Ad-/Spyware (On-Demand) Total 83,054 samples
- False positives good with 100,000 files
- Scanning speed
- Proactive detection (3,500 samples in Respektive test, 20 samples to the analysis)
- Response times to new, widespread malware (55 samples in 2007 and 3 in 2008)
- Rootkit detection (12 already active pests)
- Malware Cleanup (20 active pests clean Detect and Remove)
Pengetesan dilakukan di platform Windows XP SP2 update terakhir 1 Maret 2008 dengan produk Security Suites terbaik di tahun 2008 (termasuk AVG Internet Security 8.0 dan ESET Smart Security).

Kesimpulan
Untuk menilai mana yang terbaik tidak mudah, karena hasil terbaik untuk setiap test tidak selalu sama. Tetapi berdasarkan score yang dihasilkan, 5 produk terbaik adalah : Symantec’s Norton , AntiVir, NOD32, Sophos dan Trend Micro.
